Orientation day 1

Wow, what a day! It started out slow by it did turn out to be a interesting and productive day. The speakers were inspirational therefore served their purpose; the food provided were a bit disappointing but satisfying; the directors were informational and approachable so that's good. The best part is to finally able to talk to people that has are traveling in the same direction as you are. Someone that you can bounce ideas off of and share thoughts and opinions on subject that are interesting and related to the digital field. In another word, I was finally able to geek out, a bit.

I've met many people from different parts of the country and different country all together; these are all new faces yet there was a feeling that we are all on the same boat together. Many of them young and filled with dreams, others, like myself who are more cautious about dreams. Not that we don't, but I think there are those of us who has been through a bit of life understands that dreams don't happen because you have them. We have already invested some time in this dream and may not necessarily have seen results, therefore the caution, but nevertheless, we hold on to these dreams and that's why we are here.

One of the speakers today, the valedictorian graduate from last year, had a good message, which I already have in the back of my mind, don't give up, don't let anyone tell you "You can't" or "You are not an artist". It's easier said that done, because much like a salmon, we who pursue a career in the art field are often seen as crazy, impractical and a big gamble of time an money. Actors, musicans, any position that are not business and calculation are basically look down upon; my point is it is too often that we let those comments get to us, artist types, and we give up.

Another speaker, also a past graduate, again has a great message and valid points, which again, I have no delusion about it. "Talent is worth 10% and Hard work is worth
90%" and something his father told him was "There are plenty of talented people out there who are not successful and it is because they lack the drive to be successful."
I am pretty convinced that no one around me believes in me and because of this fact I only have one person I can't let down, I can't disappoint this person and this person is me. All you non-believers out there you can just kiss my ass.
